Historic Environment Scotland (HES) have recently published a new guide for local communities on Talking About Heritage.
In 2016, HES asked the public to respond to a consultation called What’s Your Heritage? and learned that heritage can be places people care about, stories they love or even the language they speak. The consultation also identified that people want to find out how to explore their heritage, understand it, celebrate it, and make sure it’s recognised.
The guidance brings together some of those ideas, as well as information and case studies from across Scotland, and are primarily intended for people or organisations who have an interest in their local heritage but are uncertain about where to start.
Talking About Heritage is available in four parts; Investigate Heritage, Understand Heritage, Celebrate Heritage and Care for heritage. You can find the guide on the Historic Environment Scotland website, where you can read each of the sections or download the guidance in full.
